Lights on for the first time at the Hydro Arena Glasgow

The new arena adjacent to the SECC in Glasgow is opening on Monday night with a Rod Stewart concert.

They were testing the lights today (for the first time as I understand!) and luckily I was there with a camera. It really was a beautiful and colourful display.

Roger Waters Live @ Wembley

What a concert! So glad I went....

Tough to get decent photos as there was a huge dynamic range between the darkest and lightest areas - here I blew a few highlights, but was generally acceptable!

The happy couple!

Apologies for a couple of days without posts - I've been reinstalling my computer.

On Saturday I had the pleasure of photographing my first wedding with Lewis Duncan, owner and founder of Pho2u.

In the future I'm hoping Lewis will let me loose going solo, but for last Saturday's wedding I was shooting alongside as a second photographer. Looking back over the shots we got I think you can cover a wedding much more effectively with two of you.

For this shot I used my current favourite lens, the Canon 50mm f/1.2, wide open. The slender depth of field nicely pops the happy couple form the background and helps to give some sense of depth to the shot.

Anyway, congratulations Greg & Sam!

Sunset in Infrared

I'm far from convinced that the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 II is a good lens for Infrared, but I was reasonably happy with this one.

Kodak No.2 Bulls-Eye

This fascinating camera dates back to 1896. The virtual camera museum has a 360 view of it here.

There is more information on it here.

It has a different holes in the plate at the top so there are multiple apertures. The shutter speed has two settings - you can control how far the circular plates swings round.

Shot was 3 exposures on the 5DIII and 24-70II combined in Efex HDR.
