I've got my eye on you!

A particularly tame thrush taken at very close range with my 70-200mm. I'm pleased I managed to nail the focus on the eye.

Into the trees

I used a thin depth of field and a vignette to draw the eye into the frame.

Welsh Landscape

This picture is far from perfect with close examination revealing some ghosting. For all that I quite like it and decided to share it anyway.

Caernarfon pier

I'm in the area on business today and snapped this on the Fuji X100 while on my way to dinner. I love the little X100 - it's great to have a small camera with such a sharp lens that can produce pro-quality images.

Gannet in flight

This was taken with the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 MKII with a Canon 2x MKII extender attached.

It was a little tricky tracking this fast-moving gannet across the sky whilst in a boat rocking on the sea! The 1DIII's Servo tracking did a great job, however and despite being a little small in the frame due to how high it was flying, the bird is nice and sharp!

St Mary's Landscape

The Scilly Isles are surrounded by blue seas and I loved some of the views!

Plane coming in to land

I've never been so close to a runway! There is actually a footpath which crosses the end of the runway on St Mary's in the Scilly Isles. A siren and lights warn you to keep out of the way when a plane or helicopter is about to land. I was only a few yards from the runway when this one landed.

I had the manual focus Zeiss Planar attached so I was pleased I managed to get the plane in focus.

Long exposure boat

Hi all. Just got back from a trip to the Scilly Isles. I took around 650 shots in the week, so plenty of blog fodder for the next week or so!

This was using an ND filter and very low ISO (50) to allow a long exposure which has softened the water and helped to mist the clouds a little.

Moth on Twig

My friend, James, regularly uses a moth trap to monitor and record species and numbers of moths in various areas. I joined him tonight and took this shot among others.

I used a tripod-mounted 1DIII with the Zeiss 100mm Makro & an extension tube. Light was provided with a Lencarta Safari Head firing through a gridded reflector.
